So this is why 10% of my grad school funding went to gas. What amazes me is that this map doesn’t even include parts that I think of as “LA” (San Gabriel, Pasadena). Socal is a mess, but I love it. Over the years I’ve had different points of reference for what defines life in LA for me–West LA and the Valley for most of grad school (the 10 and the 405), Riverside and San Gabriel the last year of grad school (60 E and the 210), SGV for most of the time post-grad school, and now I’ll be getting to know Orange County better. Say hello to the 5.
Spent time at H-Mart and SpaWorld this past weekend, both of which are quite multiracial spaces in Maryland/Virginia, more so than their equivalent counterparts are in LA–made my heart warm, Korean America’s contributions to our diverse democracy (fresh, cheap produce and getting your skin scrubbed!).
